How to handle very long field names was the question exercising the expert panel in the May 2014 edition of Ask UXMatters.
We came up with a number of suggestions, but before implementing any of them, test with your users. Only they can tell you whether the pain of scrolling is greater than the pain of reading awkwardly placed labels.
