Total Survey Error for non-specialists, Baltimore 2015

Total Survey Error (TSE) is a crucial concept in survey methodology, but one that I’ve struggled to get my head around myself. Eventually I realised that although the issues in TSE are often presented as linear flows, they are actually all connected and I invented a ‘Survey Octopus’ to help me to discuss them with people who aren’t familiar with the terminology of survey methodology.

This presentation, at the TSE2015 conference in Baltimore, was my opportunity to try the ideas on survey methodologists. I’d like to thank the conference organisers for the opportunity, and the attendees for their enthusiasm.

For more material on using survey methods see my book, Surveys That Work and additional resources that I’m currently posting to this site.
